Below are descriptions of all classes currently available for booking. If you are interested in booking a class, please call DeAnne Velasco Musiel, DeAnne@artsanctum.biz or 707-748-0929 for details. Samples coming soon.

We are always happy to work with store to alter class times and costs to fit the needs of our hosts. We will provide in store samples and material requirements in advance. We will also supply the store with a suggested material list that students will most likely wish to acquire upon completion or before the beginning of the class. We are also happy to discuss doing demonstrations rather than classes.

Collage Cards in Minutes
The experienced or beginning collage creator will learn tips and techniques to creating collage card sets. With materials provided by instructor, each student will complete a minimum of six cards in class. Time saving secrets and organizational tricks will prepare the student to take their own collage work on the speed track. These blank matched cards make perfect holiday gifts. Please bring embossing heat tool. 2.5 hours

Mini Collages
Create three mini collages during class. This class focuses on getting something onto paper. Working quickly but efficiently, three small collages can be created that will give the student practice in performing hands-on functions and some advanced techniques to explore. Time is limited to 45 minutes per collage, with small breaks in between and a discussion of material preparation at the beginning. Each collage will explore a various technique. The first collage will be exploring mixed media with paint as a background. Collage two will focus on paper collage, collage three will center around embellishments. . Students are encouraged to bring photos, papers, stickers etc. for their own use and a small selection that they do not mind sharing with the class. A selection of items will also be made available for you. Please bring embossing heat tool. 2.5 hours

Collage Tin In this class students will transform a metal tin into a small work of art. Students will create 3-d embellishments to use in tins as well as assemble them into a final product. Tins will be transformed with paints, embossing powder, acrylic medium, fibers wire, beads and more. Turn an otherwise throw away item into a work of art you will treasure. Students are encouraged to bring photos, papers, stickers etc. for their own use and a small selection that they do not mind sharing with the class. A selection of items will also be made available for you. Please bring embossing heat tool. 2 hours

Transformations Collage In this class we will focus on ways to transform ordinary objects into stunning material for all paper arts projects and create a finished collage for framing. Techniques for dimensional items as well as ways to create unique backgrounds will be explored. Exploration will include painting, stamping, embossing, and more. We will work with fibers, beads, wood, wire and many other items. In first hour of class students will create backgrounds that will include faux stone, paste paper and other techniques. Second hour will focus on dimensional embellishments. Final 2 hours of class will be used to make a frameable collage using the embellishments created earlier. The collage portion will focus on composition and the collage process. We will discuss and engage in several aspects of collage; encompassing material use, color management, background preparation, mediums, incorporation and use of embellishment and preservation of the work. Please bring embossing heat tool. 4 hours (best taught w /minimum ½ hour break),

Altered Book Workshop A four part session designed to teach several aspects of the altered book form Each session is designed to explore a particular area of altering in depth. Each session will be 2.5 - 3.5 hours and may be scheduled as an intensive weekend workshop or over a four week period. The goal is to complete a book in whole over the period. Previous sessions not required to complete later sessions, but it would be helpful. Students are asked to bring a blow dryer and a heat gun to each session. Students will also receive a hand out detailing techniques completes in class as well as techniques that can be tried outside of class. PART 1 - Backgrounds. Students will explore several background techniques. As many techniques as possible will be completed in class. We will explore everything from full coverage techniques with gesso and paint to sheer techniques with glazes and glues. Weaving, scribbling, direct-to-paper, watercolor crayons and more will be explored. Students are encouraged to bring ideas and supplies for backgrounds to share with the class. PART 2 - Content. In this session focus will be on adding content to your pages. Collage, photos, borders, stamping, transfers, embellishments, painting and more will be done in this class. We will work with several different embellishing materials and learn to incorporate them into a finished page or layout. Students are encouraged to bring photos, papers, stickers etc. for their own use and a small selection that they do not mind sharing with the class. Also bring any particular coloring medium you would like to explore. A selection of items and mediums will also be made available for you. PART 3 - Inclusions, In this session we will explore items that can be added into a book. We will make a small mini book and a fold out book to add in. We will add in envelopes, tags, cards a pop-up, transparent windows and more. Students are encouraged to bring any special items they would like to add to their own book. These should be 2-d items only. PART 4 - The Finale, In this session the focus is on cutting, tearing folding and more. We will drill, cut out windows and add 3-d embellishments. Pages will be combined with various kinds of closures, including sewing, punching, stapling and more. We will cut out doors, window and add folds. We will also finish the cover of the book. Students may bring any materials that they would particularly like to use to finish their covers.

The Glass Canvas! In this class students will complete a collage suitable for framing, all on glass. Collage process is completed in the reverse. Challenges created by working this way will be discussed in class and students will be directed through the process of composition. Materials will include paper, paints mediums, stamping and more. Special focus will be concentrated on mediums required to work confidently on this surface. Learn the joy of creating an art piece for hanging in a medium that provides unique depth and brilliance of color. 2.5-3 hours.

Fiber Fiber! - fiber use in paper arts In this class we will explore working with fiber. Students will learn different ways to apply fibers to projects. We will make backgrounds, and explore various techniques for making fibers part of your work, including braiding, punching, gluing and more Students will create a mini book in class that incorporates all these ideas into mini projects and will serve as a reference for lessons and later use. 2-2.5 hours.

Clearly Creative - working on acrylic! In this class we will explore working on transparent non-porous surfaces. Work will be done in the reverse and several techniques will be explored. We will experiment with marbling, stamping, painting, leafing, wire wrapping and collaging acrylic shapes. Work will include practical techniques of handling materials and various methods of completing works. Students will take home several embellishment pieces that can be used later to make completed projects. Possible completed projects will be shown and explained in class. 2-2.5 hours.

Some Like It Hot! - embellishing with colored hot glue Yes, hot glue! In this class we will try several techniques for creating fun embellishments for all your art work. We will create faux wax seals, free form designs and use molds to make 3-d embellishments. Students will take home several embellishment pieces that can be used later to make completed projects as well as complete a pin that can be worn. Please bring embossing heat tool. 2-3 hours. $20

Wood Wonders - transforming wood into art. Wood provides a unique working surface that is durable, dimensional and customizable. In this class we will start with bare wood pieces and create fun embellishments. Students will create faux scrabble pieces, embossed tiles, painted beads and more. Techniques such as collage, stamping and painting will be used. Students will take home several embellishment pieces that can be used later to make completed projects. Please bring embossing heat tool. Possible completed projects will be shown and explained in class. 2-2.5 hours.

Box Charming In this class students will transform a simple small wooden box into a charming container perfect for gift giving. Boxes will be transformed with the use of inks, stamps, glazes, fibers, magic leaf, beads and more. The interior will be finished with a small piece of stamped and painted material that will be a cushion perfect for presenting a ring, locket or other small gift. 2.5 hours.

Mask Masterpiece In this class students will be provided with a ceramic ware mask. This is the blank life size canvas each student will bring to life. We will use stamping, collage, paint and more to turn each mask into an individual masterpiece. Students will then get to add fiber wire and bead embellishments to enhance and bring their masterpiece to completion. Students are encouraged to bring any special items/colors they would like to add to their own mask. 2-2.5 hours.

Winged Doll Woman Create a wild wonderful winged doll in this fun and creative class. Common objects will be used to build your doll from head to toe. Using several techniques including collage, stamping, painting, sewing, and more students will transform common objects into glorious doll parts and then assemble the final figure. To finish, we will give our doll the power of flight with her own set of wings. 2-2.5 hours.

Exploring Color This class is designed to teach the basic elements of color mixing as well as explore advanced techniques of generating personal palettes. In the first half of class, students will create color scales, mixes, and wheels on watercolor board as companions to the discussion of color theory. In the second half of class students will practice mixing specific colors and will paint an actual stamped piece. Students may provide their own image or one will be provided in class. 6 hours. $80 includes $40 in materials; basic paint set and color theory book.

The Color Wheel This class is designed to give students a basic understanding of color principles plus a hands on tool for future reference. Many failures in projects can be directly related to problems with color. Students will create a multi material color wheel from paper, fibers and beads. Discussion will focus on color application in real world projects, how color works and how to make the right color choices for you. Students are encouraged to bring samples of their own work to class where they felt color was either working or not. These items as well as those provided by instructor will be used to demonstrate how color choices can effect final results. 2-2.5 hours.

Color Workshop - Exploring color and the color wheel, can be combined as an intensive weekend workshop in color. Additional challenges will include color studies, compositional exercises and critiques.

Collage Box Class Learn to collage on 3-d surfaces using stamps, paper, paints and more. The student will learn all the essential techniques for turning a 3-d item into a work of art. Beginning with preparation of the material, the actual collage process and finally embellishment and preservation of the work. The student will complete a box in class suitable for gift giving or displaying in the home. Techniques discussed in class can be applied to most 3-d surfaces. Students are encouraged to bring photos, papers, stickers etc. for their own use and a small selection that they do not mind sharing with the class. A selection of items will also be made available for you. 3 hours, $30 per student.

Terrific Mixed Media Torso/Hand Students can choose to complete either the torso or hand in class. Please choose when registering. Class will comprise of turning a standing flat board cut torso into a display piece. Project will incorporate using familiar items in new ways: glitter, pearl-ex and more. Students will also have a chance to try out various acrylic gel mediums, paints and a special transfer technique. We will also use many embellishments such as fibers, buttons and more. Become familiar with the challenges of combining media on a single surface and learn the fixes to common compositional problems. Finished torsos may also function as jewelry holders. Students should bring a blow dryer (not a heat gun) 3-3.5 hours.

Learning Composition This class is designed to explore the basic elements of composition through the practice of creating small collage pieces. Using magazines as material and glue students will create several mini compositions . Each one will focus on a basic aspect of composition: balance, line, movement, etc. Mini art works can be used later as reference tools. Some portion of class will also be spent in critique. Students are encouraged to bring samples of work where they feel composition was used well or poorly. Students should bring a few old magazines. 3 - 3.5 hours.

Altering Papers Never seem to have the quite right color for your project? Think the paper really needs some texture or sparkle? In this class we will explore several techniques for recreating paper. Perfect for the stamper or scrapper. Learn to use familiar materials to give your paper a whole new look. Try techniques with Rub-ons, glazes, Pearl-ex and more. Students will create several papers to take home as reference and to use in their own projects. 2-2.5,

Collage Workshop - collage classes may be combined in a number of ways to create a weekend long collage intensive.
